Studio Policy and Procedures

Please take a moment to read through the these policies and procedures. If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Lesson Pricing and Payment

The current cost of a lesson is $65 per 60 minutes
($50 for 45 mins. $35 for 30 mins)

Payment is a tuition system. Amount owing will be a lump sum for the year based on the number of lessons the student receives in the year. This can be paid by postdated cheque, per semester (September and January), or in one lump sum (which gives you a 10% discount off the total).

There will be a $20 late charge for late payments or bounced cheques. If 2 payments in a row are missed without notice, lessons will be suspended until the balance is paid.

Student Admission

In my commitment to provide the best lessons and teaching possible to my students, the earliest age I will accept is 7 years old*. If you are looking for lessons for children younger than 7, I have a number of names of wonderful teachers I can refer you to.

*(I may make exceptions based on the individual student. If you would like them to still be considered, please reach out to me to book a free trial lesson)

Safer Space

All are welcome in my studio, regardless of race, gender, orientation, disability, or neurodivergence. The studio is in the process of becoming wheelchair accessible with the help of a ramp that can be placed on the front steps (please let me know if you have mobility issues). I have also completed the Trans-Affirming training provided by Skipping Stone and am in the process of being an official member of their trans affirming network. I have a zero tolerance policy for hate speech and queerphobic comments from students and parents.

The Studio Space

The studio is apart of my home; you may encounter my partner who lives in the house as well (although he is conscious not to enter the space while teaching is in progress). You may also encounter two cats. If you have allergies, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your needs, clean well, and keep the cats away during lessons.

Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your lesson! If you do arrive earlier than that, please wait in your car or on the patio on the front porch for your lesson time.

What to expect from me

I commit to being prepared for lessons, giving each student my undivided attention and energy, suggesting and choosing suitable repertoire, actively working to help the student achieve their goals, adequately preparing students for exams and performances, and actively showing respect and empathy.

What's expected of students

Students are expected to practice in between lessons, show up on time, bring with them an open mind and a willingness to learn, commit to their lesson times, and show myself, the studio, my home and partner, and all other students they may encounter respect.

Please bring a pencil, water bottle, notebook, and all music that is being worked on to lessons.

Sick policy, make-up lessons, and cancelling lessons

Due to the nature of scheduling, there will be no makeup lessons offered. Since I am still an active performer, there may be times where I have reschedule lessons in order to accommodate rehearsals. If this happens, you will be sent a link to my calendar so that you can book a time that works for you for the rescheduled lesson.

If the student is sick, please do not attend your lesson in person. If they feel well enough to still do a lesson, please request an online lesson. Students who show up to lessons sick will be asked kindly to leave and not return until they feel better.

If you wish to cancel your lessons, 1 month's notice is required. You will receive a refund for the remainder of the lessons that were paid for in advance.
